This Friday, Kovacs & the Polar Bear is playing the back room of the LAB. Brave the douches standing out front and see one of my favorite local bands.

Mates of State are coming back to the Peel on October 3rd! With Other Lives and Yawn.

Video is “Maracas” from the forthcoming seventh LP Mountaintops coming out 9/13 on Barsuk. Looks like it’s shoot using VHS, which is a growing trend of concern (see Foo Fighters’ Rope).

One of the highlights of Moogfest was a late night set by Asheville’s own RBTS WIN. They describe their sound as “One part folk. One part Hip Hop and one part Indie rock.” It was just a super fun live show full of synths and energy. Zen was there too and took some awesome photos.
Since then, they released a free EP, but haven’t played a lot around here.
However, tonight they will be at the Grey Eagle opening for English dubstep duo Mount Kimbie! Should be an awesome night for just 15 bucks.
