I enjoyed the show much more than he did.
Remember when it was warm out? Well, it’s not anymore, but RBTS WIN are great in any weather! CD release party tonight at Emerald Lounge with LEANN GRIMES, Contra Verse, and Luxury Spirit. 5 bucks.
Mad Tea Party is gonna get folked up! Ami and Krekel will unplug, but still rock tonight, 6:30pm, at Hop West. It’s free and you can eat some awesome ice cream before dinner!
NewVillager is playing Wednesday night at the Get Down in West Asheville. They are a multimedia art slash “new pop” collective hailing from Brooklyn and San Francisco. I would normally pooh-pooh on such a band, but their new self-titled album has been on repeat for the last week. It’s transcends the labels and is just fun and unpretentious. The video for their single “LightHouse” is similarly fun and full of amazing costumes.
Recommended if you like: TV on the Radio, Dirty Projectors, Metronomy
If you are feeling ambitious check out Joseph Arthur beforehand at the Greagle. Alli Marshall from the MX wrote a great preview.
Update: New video from Vimeo that will actually play on Tumblr.
The Ettes tomorrow night at Greagle. Rock ‘n roll, bitches.
Check out Miles’ preview in the Mountain Xpress.
Sidenote: Coco” Hames from The Ettes is one half of The Parting Gifts. The other half is of course Greg Cartwright.

This Friday, Kovacs & the Polar Bear is playing the back room of the LAB. Brave the douches standing out front and see one of my favorite local bands.
Stephen Malkmus and The Jicks are coming to the Orange Peel on October 1st! You may know Malkmus from the legendary indie band Pavement…
This track is Senator from their forthcoming album Mirror Traffic, out August 23rd on Matador.
Some other interesting recently announced Peel shows are:

Acony Records is proud to announce that on June 28, 2011 they will release The Harrow & The Harvest, the new album by Gillian Welch, featuring ten new songs recorded at her own Woodland Sound Studios in Nashville, Tennessee and produced by David Rawlings.
In anticipation of this long-awaited album from Gillian, Harvest Records is one of only a number of stores nationwide to host an EXCLUSIVE LISTEN of the entire new jam!
The record label is keeping this album under wraps completely until release date; truly, in the old-school style of “listening parties”, this will be the ONLY way you can hear the album 10 days ahead of the release! And of course, in addition to the listen we’ll have some other freebies for you…
*** High quality limited edition posters featuring artwork from the forthcoming album for the first 20 customers who pre-order the CD during the listening party. Album art is being created by John Baizley so these are sure to be collectable!

***A raffle for a pair of tickets for her August 5th show at the Orange Peel!
***other goodies… (1x1 flats, post cards, tour posters, etc)

Grace Potter and the Nocturnals played the grand opening of the outdoor stage at Pisgah Brewery on a beautiful Thursday night. What is better than great music, local organic beer, and free ice cream?
